Installed New Motherboard; Windows Activation Fails

    Hello

I had made this thread a few days back when my PSU went up in smoke frying my old Gigabyte mobo as well.

I installed a new motherboard today (different brand and make) and since then my Windows has been failing to validate. I called the automated voice service and after entering the installation ID, they said that the no. of installations have exceeded the user agreement. I have been using this same Windows key for over 5 years.

Please advise how I can re-activate my Windows 7. Do I need to reinstall windows?

I tried to connect with their support reps but the office hours are now over.

    Thanks

    Hi Probuddha,
The interesting bit in your first post
they said that the no. of installations have exceeded the user agreement.

Now a retail licence does NOT have a maximum number of installs.

WHAT it does have is a >>CURRENTLY live installed<< limit. (1)

if you copy/paste the results of this tool, we can get more info
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

You could do a minor check yourself
google the last 3 blocks of your key, if you end up with multiple hits thats not a good sign.

I have removed the 2 blocks of key preceding the last block. Please let me know if you'd still need that bit

I also searched Google with Windows 7 key (last block) but it didn't return any results

    Kindly advise

    Many thanks

    Hi PB
try this, from a run command.
    slui.exe 4
    follow the instructions

If that fails try the local phone No: when there LIVE, let it ring till you get an operater, the automatic validation can/does fail at times, especially with your error code. Notification Reason: 0xC004F00F.

    Hi Roy

I already went through the activation wizard and the Automatic activation fails with the message

The Product Key must be activated with the new hardware.

I also tried connecting with a live agent in MS India but unfortunately, they're out of office that time. So I guess I will have to try this tomorrow

Did you find anything wrong in the diagnostic report?

    Regards

It's probably because I'm on my iPad. I'll see if I can find the post in the Windows 10 forum.
