    Checking for updates stalls

    Hello,

I've finally updated from Windows XP to Windows 7 SP1 64bit yesterday (with a new PC). For my entire life, Windows XP is the only OS I've used. So, I'm brand new to Windows 7 and hardly know anything about it.

I tried using windows update, but it just hangs and says "checking for updates".

I tried manually downloading several update files, but none of them have worked. I disabled firewall (because I thought maybe that was blocking the download?) and defender. I don't know what else to do and I really need help because I've become so frustrated.

if so can you run this tool please, copy/paste the output.

Unfortunately MS is not treating W7 users as a priority at the moment and updating is rather SLOW, just let it run overnight.

    Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
When manually installing updates you need to switch your update settings to Never check for updates and restart the machine first.

Make sure KB3020369 is installed if not manually install it,
    Win-7 32 bit

    Win-7 64 bit
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=46817

After manually install this one too KB3161608
    Win-7 32bit
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down....aspx?id=52976
    Win-7 64bit

After switch your windows update settings back to what you had prior and manually check for updates and the rest should show up shortly.
