"Un-fixable" stuff under Windows Update Diagnostic

I ran windows update diagnostic because my Windows Update was failing to update my PC over the past several months. I downloaded the diagnostic from go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=231149

Two major errors were not fixed that sound serious.
"Service registration is missing or corrupt"
and, "Windows update error 0x80070057 (2016-07-30-7-06-01P)"

The rest were fixed, all the rest being "Problem installing recent update." I don't take that to mean that the intended updates were actually installed.

Any insight and advice concering the "un-fixable" errors would be appreciated.

OK, the reason I took a step backwards to do what I did, is because SURT seemed to hang. Got impatient after more than two hours of waiting with nothing registering on the progress bar when it was "searching for updates" on my computer. Was I waiting long enough? It is running again as I write this.

As an update, I have been running SURT now for over 9 hours, and it is still running.

Here is a shot a directory of failed installations. This is a new directory (dated July 30, 2016), although the update files are dated 2014. The last successful updates were in 2015, and I had the computer in storage for a year. Today was the first day out of storage. These files below appeared, I believe, after I ran sfc /scannow

    Hi Paul,
If the Service registration is missing/corrupt then running SURT/SFC will not fix it.
    can you run this tool

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

within it and to confirm my suspicions, i would expect to see a scripting error somewhat like this
CScript Error: Can't find script engine "VBScript" for script "C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs".

I didn't get any of that, so I killed the SURT process (running 11 hours now) to see if it would make a difference. It didn't. Here is a copy of the output, shown below. If you are checking the stats on my PC, this one is different. I am running Home Edition SP1, with an inexpensive Gigabit mainboard and an AMD Athlon quad core. Only 4GB RAM on this one.

sfc/scannow said "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of th
em." when run from an elevated command prompt.

Here is also a zip file of the latest CBS log. I couldn't zip all of them, they would go over the limit. The first is the very latest, and the smaller one is one with plenty of error messages on it.

    Fixed, tentatively

I was using the start menu to start a program when I noticed a little yellow shield icon next to the "Shut down" button. This appears to be a signal that Windows Update is back to work. However, the matter of SURT taking forever (and my never having seen it actually terminate) still bugs me.

But anyway, I appear to be in the middle of 66 updates, so a tentative victory!

I still wish to pursue this matter, and if anyone can make sense of the log files and relate back to me with your insights (including a clean bill of health), please do.

IF the updates install forget about the above.
