    Guess it is time to set "Never check for updates"


    Next in the W7 update debacle! Updates will be consolidated into packages. So I guess there will be no way to separate "important" updates from the "recommended" updates. I have seen more than one recommended update cause serious problems. Even a couple of the important updates have caused issues, but it is relatively easy to isolate the problem update, uninstall and hide. This will be difficult if multiple updates are combined into packages. Just another attempt by MS to force us into W10. No thank you MS, I'll just turn all updates OFF and deal with any issues that come up. If W7 becomes unusable, then it is time for Linux or Mac.

    There are two possible solutions.

    I'm in the midst of doing one of the two possible solutions. Presently I'm downloading from:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/913086
    That page contains huge ISOs of every month of updates. I've downloaded all the 2016 monthly ISOs, nearing the end of downloading all the 2015 ISOs, and will continue until there are no more -- even though I think I only need 2015 & 2016.
    This also means I have to download every monthly ISO from August to December; all of 2017, and so on.
    After downloading the ISOs, I "expand" each ISO into its own folder. I think that will make searching for and activating the necessary Windows 7 MSI [Windows Update KB-[whatever] easier. I have two years of WUs to search through so far. The way I will begin the search: to "print to file" the current Windows Updates listing, and go from there.

    The other possible solution involves this MS web site:
    Microsoft Update Catalog
    Because I have elected to not even try it, I have no idea how it works, how long it will work.
