    What is KB3177723?

    Hi,

Today KB3177723 appeared under "Important Updates" in Windows Update. A couple of Google searches yielded nothing, and clicking the "More Information" link in Windows Update opens a window with "This page doesn't exist". Does anyone know what this patch is supposed to be? Thanks in advance.

I have the same question, but I have GWX Control Panel, which kills any 10 invaders, so I downloaded KB3177723. GWX did not object and it is a very small update of a few Kb. I received the same "page does not exist" when I tried MS for more information, but what worried me was the same message after trying "More Information" with the accompanying 'Optional' update, which I did not download. Has MS decided to prevent us getting access to More Info regarding updates?

I have a feeling that the update procedures at microsoft broke down and someone forgot to link KB3177723 to the 'more information' link in the updates control panel.

KB3177723 is an update for a time zone change for Egypt because they decided not to change to daylight savings time for this year and you need to install it if you are going to spend some time or do business with/in Egypt, if you have no plans for Egypt don't install it.

There is one other undocumented KB that came out (KB3179573) see: http://Windows Updates not documented...? | en.community.dell.com/support

Doing a search with your favorite search engine for KB3177723 will also pick up a third KB, 3179574 that seems to be undocumented, but it's for win8.1

As of this posting, I haven't seen any of these three show up.

Thanks for the info Anak. :)

I thought there had already been an update for time zone change for Egypt a few months ago, maybe it the same one but upgraded from Optional to Important?

    You're welcome,

I vaguely remember one for Egypt and there have been others that have been flip/flopped, Russia comes to mind, and one that was a general tune-up for time synchronization as used by windows, It would be difficult trying to hunt them down now.
Changed optional to important? Only microsoft/windows can answer why to that

As I said before concerning these localized time updates; If you have dealings with the area of the world that windows is trying to fix, go ahead and install the update, if not, hide it, it will not hurt to not install it.

Thanks Anak for the original response, MS have now caught onto the (unavailable) "More Information" bit!

    Thanks David for further information.

So Microsoft is human after all?

Here in the UK, Daylight Saving is contentious. The futher North you live, the more useful it is in your life. Up here in Lincolnshire, we like the extra sunshine in the Summer evenings.
