Microsoft says I've activated my Windows 7 license too many times.

    Hi,
Yep at that price if it is a system builder is what it sells for
A full retail they were a lot of years ago 200.us buying from microsoft directly.

But the mag report will say one way or the other pretty easily
Let us know we might want a phone number... :)
Might be a catch 22 we'd have to pay for them to install it to get that price for the software.

You could go for a copy from Newegg for 140 that you know will be good instead of getting screwed again, downside being that it is OEM, however it is your money. If I where you I'd go for newegg and get several copies while they still have them.

The shop isn't going to install it for me. I told them I have Windows 7 on the computer already and that I didn't want to install it again. Reason is that my MB has USB 3.0 ports on it and Win 7 does not have support for USB 3.0. In order to use them, I had to use the original MS install disk along with the DVD that came with the ASUS MB to make an ISO file and then burn a new install disk. I don't want to bother with doing that again and I told that to the computer shop. They didn't seem to think that there would be a problem with just using the new key to re-activate what I have now. And they claimed that I can move the OS to a new computer if the current one dies or I want to upgrade to something better. But when I go to the shop to pick up the package, I will check it to see if it is OEM.

Is there any real software difference between a Retail version and the OEM version? I was under the impression that the OS's were the same and everything depended upon the kind of license key that you use for activation.

The OS is the same. The only difference is how you use the license. You should be able to just change the license unless the licensing service is messed up.

    Hi,
Biggest difference is written on the dvd
But the outer box on the description bar code if it is a oem it will say so
Otherwise it won't say much beside which version it is ....
