Update KB2952664 repeated failures, error 8004402F

    Hello,

As the title says, I am unable to successfully install the update KB2952664. I get the error code : 8004402F. Usually it wouldn't bother me but it just so happens that this update is required to upgrade to Windows 10, so I need to install it. Running an SFC scan shows no errors. I have attached my windows log.

This looks to me as if you've been messing with environment variables?

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following commands

    CD %TEMP%
    ICACLS %TEMP%
    ICACLS %TMP%
    ICACLS C:\Windows\Temp
    REG QUERY HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Environment
    REG QUERY HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Environment
    REG QUERY HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Environment

    post the results.

Here are some instructions to make lifeeasier :)

    1) To open anElevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs,Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run asAdministrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run thecommands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on thehighlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at topleft – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the lastcommand, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy theresults... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit...'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to pasteit into your response.

    OMIGAWD!
That was a response I was not expecting!
I'll have to think about the best way of tackling that, because resetting it could cause unforeseen side-effects.

I think it's just a case of resetting the User variables - all the others look OK.
We'd better check the Default variables first, though, as it may be those at fault...

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    REG QUERY HKU\.DEFAULT\Environment
    REG QUERY HKU\.DEFAULT

    Post the results.

OK- it looks as if the misdirection is simply a problem with your own profile then...
(preferably, print these instructions out so you don't have to open a browser window to refer to them)

    Reboot
Open the System properties page (Start > right-click on Computer and select Properties)
Click on the Advanced Settings link in the left pane, and confirm the UAC prompt.
    Click on the Advanced tab
Click on the Environment Variables button
Highlight the TEMP variable in the top window (or Add it if it doesn't exist) and click Edit
replace the current Variable value with %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp and click OK
    repeat for the TMP variable.
OK out, and reboot - twice.

Now open an Elevated command prompt, and run the following commands.

    ICACLS TMP
    ICACLS TEMP
