all transform 7 and 8 into Windows 10 with a Windows 7 or 8.1 skin.

It's not just like how you could ignore some updates and be fine, enforced telemetry and basically spying on all users is being enforced. Screenshots I saw were not like the usual windows 7 updates.

My main desktop has Linux Mint 17.3 and Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. The last update I've made for Windows was in June, I don't boot into it much anymore since my only main reason to keep 7 x64 ultimate is for some gaming that somehow CrossOver (a proprietary program made to emulate Windows applications that are complex, like games, much better than just Wine, and also there is Steam on Linux. But still there is some games that I play that only work well with win7. Should I disable updates? Because from what I saw, and believe me, I've seen your stickied thread and will take a look at it, but apparently resistance is futile now, when people only receive one update which is a "package" when they are setup like me "notify me of new updates, let me update myself', that does not say much what it does but apparently creates deep changes to even the kernel of win7.

Correct me if wrong and all hope is not lost.

    Morning fruitkiller,

Perhaps you could indicate which forum you came across the info you mentioned. I'd be interested in reading what they have to say.

    Hi,
I'm not even sure what that means :)

You can post a screen shot yourself of what you're referring too.

If your update settings exclude Recommended updates from being mixed into the Important updates section all should be fine to Ignore the Optional section and only install Important updates.

    Otherwise
Most of the telemetry updates yes most of us have avoided and not installed them plus others we feel do not apply to our use......

But all should abide by the CEIP preferences which can be accessed by clicking start and typing this into the search box
Change Customer Experience Improvement Program settings

You'll see if you're oped in or out.
Other micro... programs will also have settings to opt in or out of like Windows essentials/ MSE/ windows media player/...
