Win7 Pro recent "Windows is not genuine" issue

This is a custom-built desktop that has been running since 2014. No recent changes to hardware (only change ever might have been RAM addition). After years of updates, recently started getting the notices with 0xC004F200 error on startup. Screen is now black with Build 7601 Windows is not genuine notice. I believe that I still have the COA, but will have to look. Though I didn't build it, I trust the guy who did. Any help is warmly welcome.

    Hi Mike,
    Not such a good guy,
There are indicators showing that the install is counterfiet.

    1) The licence type for a custom build, either Retail or System Builder, you are showing as an OEM sticker code, (basically taken from another computer)
    2) The Office Enterprise install is also showing a blocked VLK key, and this version is sold to Business's and Educational establishments.

If you can find the COA then UNinstall Office and try and activate with that key.

The installed Product Key is an OEM_COA_SLP Key - which is ONLY valid on computers pre-installed with Windows by large manufacturers.
Your machine has a retail motherboard, and therefore cannot qualify for such a Key.
This Key was probably purchased through eBay or similar - and 90+% of such software is counterfeit.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media and Key.

(and yes. Office is also counterfeit! )

This PC is used in a small business. We ordered it with valid keys and I've seen at least the Win 7 COA and media. My friend builds a lot of PCs. Perhaps it is possible that he re-used an image and then forgot to update with the license key. I will look. If that is the case, can't I simply change to the valid key during the validation process?

Thanks very much for your replies!

If the COA sticker is for Windows 7 Professional, then that Key should work.
Use the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.
