    Hi,
That is where the second session of fun starts :)
Personally I would Exclude all Recommended updates from being mixed up with the important updates and only install the important updates in the first round.

See if you can get that far :)

Right i am back up and running and can confirnm that the procedure for windows 7 is as outlind here with regards updating

Following a clean install, Windows Update remains at "Checking For - Microsoft Community
Best to wait for the processes highlighted in the screenshot to finish before checking for updates.

It would probably be a good idea to reapply your desired WU settings too even if they're already checked. Just toggle them and click OK.

thats no good 'we need to make a list of all updates that have in the past caused concern and as of now so that my report to microsoft is solid
there are far too many updates for me to go through them one by one. only a list that we all can agree on that are bad is the way forward

Personally I don't see any "bad" updates to avoid installing except the telemetry ones and that's just personal preference.

Here's my list but some of them may not be for Windows 7

KB976902 - as far as I know it's SP1 so if your Windows 7 ISO included SP1 then it would show up as installed.
