Hi,
By restoring it from a back up image or by transferring the contents from another drive you copied the contents to before installing windows. |

Hi,
If it was the only disk and you formatted it the D partition is gone You would of needed to use list volumes after selecting the disk that would of shown all the existing partitions and you could of selected the C partition to format = still very risky though since the disk could of also have 100mb system reserved partition too. It's always best as you've found to put back up on a totally separate hdd ![]() You can try free mini tool to see if it can see and restore the D partition :/ Best Free Partition Manager for Windows | MiniTool Partition Free |

One thing I kept running into at first was that the Windows somehow kept switching the Windows Update service's startup type back to "Automatic (Delayed Start)". So something to keep watching at each step is that the service isn't running. Questions about the last two items: Quote:
6) After switch your windows update and service settings back to what you had prior and manually check for updates and the rest should show up shortly.

7) After all of the above is completed you can use Option 3 below to reset all of the windows updates components

Hi,
I'd leave the service at default which is auto delayed start Since the newest update client it works as it should or as it has for year without any issues = finds updates shortly after starting up if there are any :) The reset is for good measure to clear any failed to install updates from the history yes I would also do that :) What I've noticed some security suites like Eset do reset update settings I do not know if there is a setting one can alter to stop that though but I have not run into it personally. Manually installing updates is a last resort not something I'd personally want to do every month ![]() First rule is to create a system image Before downloading any updates that way none can really hurt you Imaging with free Macrium |

Don't failed to install updates just come up again the next time? The first big update I ran was something like 770 updates and I think 120+ failed to install. They came up next time and successfully installed.

Windows Update broken. Multiple fixes didn't work. Greetings, I've got a doozy of a Toshiba here. Originally, it had the beginnings of a failed hard drive, so we cloned it over. After that, we ran BleachBit, AdwCleaner, and JRT as a basic cleanup, not finding anything significant. HitmanPro also found nothing of note. Finishing up, we started... |
