    Popup Windows 7 is not Genuine SLUI will not run HP Elitebook

    As the title states.
    Windows 7 Pro is loading a popup every few hours telling me I'm a thief.
    I have an HP Elitebook Workstation. I installed bare crapware free Windows 7 Pro from a Microsoft Digital River ISO loaded to a thumb drive four years ago using the OEM COA key for Win 7 Pro in the battery compartment.

    SLUI.exe 4 and SLUI.exe 3 don't do a thing so I can't re-enter the COA key and proceed to phone activation.

    I've run scans with Malware Bytes, Super Anti Spyware, and the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal tool. No critters found.

    Windows validation run from IE 11 fails with a scripting error.

    MGADiag follows;

    Hi Hatzie,
    Theres a big chunk of the report missing, thats why you cant use Slui, also referenced by the tampered file message.

    No. SLUI.EXE doesn't appear to do anything. No errors but nothing else either.

    Hi Hatzie,
    Easy fix failed
    need to change some registry data,

    Copy the text enclosed in +++++ to Notepad, and save as regwowfix.reg
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA}]

    00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,73,00,6c,00,\
    75,00,69,00,2e,00,65,00,78,00,65,00,00,00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA}\1.0\FLAGS]
    @="0"

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Once saved, close all applications, then right-click on the file and select Merge
    You'll get at least one warning - accept it/them.
    You should then get a 'Success' message.
    accept that, and reboot.

    run another MGADiag report and post the results.

    If the import fails, you'll have to take ownership of each key, and grant Administrators Full access
    Remember to undo that as soon as possible afterwards!

    Hi Hatzie,
    That report looks fine, should now be able to update.

    Thank you for the help. I use this laptop for work.
    No more "You're a thief" popups and I didn't have to resort to the all day entertainment of re-installing Windows along with my Office suite, compilers, terminal emulators, and ICD packages.

    Hopefully I can go back to lurking. Thanks again.

    Hatzie
