    Windows License?

Hello, I am restoring an older laptop of mine, an Acer Aspire, it originally came with Windows Vista (which I liked).
I have a Windows License for this machine, unfortunately Vista is no longer available.
Any suggestions? I am not opposed to buying a Windows 7 license if I have too.

You can find Vista here, if you want.

    Operating Systems

Other options would be any version of Linux.

    Zorin is real nice.

If you already have a license, just use that one again when reinstalling, use the very same serial that you have and it will activate. There is no need to download, much less to purchase anything for that, you already have everything.

"Vista is no longer available" just means that Microsoft doesn't sells any more copies of it, and it doesn't cares about it anymore, but any existing systems using it, and all serials previously issued will obviously still work.

    Thanks for the response.

Your right about the DVD, It never came with one.
My Windows 7 laptop came with the install media and I have needed it quite a few times.

Thank you I will check this out for sure. I have thought about using this machine as a dedicated linux machine as I
    already use Debian and Slackware.
I have another laptop with Windows 7 dual-booted with Slackware 14.1 and a newer Acer with Windows 10, dual-booted
    with Debian 8.2.
My preference would be to have some windows system on here along with something linux, I have heard of Zorin, may
    give it a spin.
I like Windows and Linux both, makes me somewhat out of place on a Linux forum as I lack the required Windows hatred.

Is it possible to buy a copy of Windows Vista that is not a download but an actual DVD?
I would have to go to the public library and access the ethernet there for a download the size of Vista, I didn't see any
    info on the download size?

Add to this thread and someone will get you a download link on a file sharing site. Since this is a separate forum you will have to create a new profile. Note that this is for an ISO download only. You will have to have your own license. Since we are just about down to 6 months support on Vista I encourage you to go with 7 or newer especially if you have a newer iPhone or iPad since iTunes no longer supports Vista.
