Windows 7 Update Error: Service Registration Is Missing or Corrupt
Windows 7 Update Error: Service Registration Is Missing or Corrupt
Please help - I'm a newby with basic IT skills & my OS is not well...
My Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OS has recently started playing up, not able to find or download updates. I confess the last time I updated was late August & I rarely shut down - instead usually hibernate. Also sometimes windows explorer itself crashes: All folders & apps on desktop & bottom task-bar + my start menu disappear. Sometimes I can't right-click & get options & sometimes can't even bring up Task Manager!)
I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab
After long wait during 'troubleshooting' it fixed some things but said:
"Service registration is missing or corrupt - NOT FIXED"
I again checked for updates, and Windows Update said there were no updates found:
Windows Update error 0x8024402C(2016-10-03-T-09_43_50P)
and then another time:
Windows Update Error code: 80248007
From research I know this problem is usually because of the incomplete or missing registry files, so I ran a System File Checker scan from an elevated command prompt - but strangely SFC drew a blank with no corrupt files found!
Clutching at straws I tried a few fixes I saw suggested on other threads:
I tried Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components.bat with no success. The Reset ran & cleared my update history & made whatever other changes to registry etc it does - but still didn't fix & allow updates.
I tried windows6.1-servicing-x64-5sep14_204d1fa1d4c28ecaa409b9d433b8d1bb9abe11a8.exe - which extracted to cabinet but nothing else seemed to happen.
Then I tried Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu + Windows6.1-KB3102810-x64.msu & Windows Standalone Installer said 'preparing installation" but failed with Installation Error 0x80080005
I also know from searching forums & Microsoft support that this problem has been encountered quite a few times since last year so if anyone can guide me through trouble-shooting & resolving this that would be greatly appreciated!
