    Can't download anything since auto-update.

This started over a year ago. The computer slowed WAY down over several days, so it must have been a large update. Since then, I can't download anything. I've no computer savvy, so have no idea what to do. Anyone out there patient enough to walk me through the steps?

    Hi ThrashZone.
It auto-updates just fine, it just won't download things I want on the Internet now. If I want some new software, nope... something from "download.com", nope... driver for my printer, nope.

    Hi,
    Use Clean boot,
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
Click Start and type in the search box,
    msconfig
Click on the suggestion on top or hit the Enter key,
Go to the Startup section and take some screen shots for a complete list,
Go to the Services section and on the bottom left Check the box to Hide All Microsoft services,
    Repeat the screen shots,
See the links above my signature on how to take and upload screen shots here.

Drat! I clicked on Go Advanced. But when I click on the paperclip, nothing happens.
(That is another problem. Sometimes to make something come up, I have to right click and hit "open in another tab.")
    Sigh.
But I DO have all the screen shots. Is there another way to get them to you?

    Hi,
    Use safe mode with networking
Safe Mode with Networking - Add to Windows Boot Manager Screen
Seems something is blocking active x or access to your machine in many ways.

Which security do you use ?

Run a System File Check (SFC) to see if you have any errors that can't be fixed by SFC.
You may need to run it up to 3 times, here's the tutorial:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
