How to open Convenience Rollup KB3125574?

No, I don't mean how to USE it - I mean, how does one open a file like this?

    Clicking a download link for KB3125574 gets a 476MB file named 'windows6.1-kb3125574-v4-x64_2dafb1d203c8964239af3048b5dd4b1264cd93b9.msu'.

From what I've read on other websites, this apparently-single file is made up of 122 smaller files.

So my question is: How to split this file into its component files?

I don't want to install it - I want to pull it to bits. Are you saying it can't be opened?

Here you go, I just opened it with this method,

Windows Update - Extract an Update

It's going to unpack to about 3.5GB

That extracted folder has 37,564 items,

That should be enough bits to play with.

derekimo, that's exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks very much.

My reason for asking is that my Feb2016 self-built integration already included more than half of the updates that were included in the 'Convenience Rollup'. Of those remaining, it's possible that I might not want them either, for various reasons.

For example, KB3125574 includes at least three telemetry files, 3068708, 3075249 and 3080149, which I have no intention of allowing anywhere near my system.

So, the ability to 'dissect' this, or any subsequent rollups, is essential for me.

    Thanks again

Later: Hi derekimo. Followed your link and downloaded the KB Extractor, but I notice it's version 1.2. I followed up a few more posts by 'niemiro', who I understand wrote the app, and he noted that this version was buggy. Do you know if there is a later version?

Even later: I've just read the posts again and I note that niemiro said he'd fixed earlier bugs in v.1.2.

But he also mentioned he was working on v.2.0.

    Did this ever eventuate?

You're welcome, I honestly don't know if he ever did get a v2.0, I just happen to remember seeing that tutorial when I saw your thread last night.
