Torchwood: I reset the time zone (it was correct to begin with) and the time. Even set the time to NIST. Ran update again and KB3185330 and KB3192403 as well as KB3197868 failed to install again. The other updates installed normally. I looked at the original results of running MGADiag.exe and when I reran it after changing the clock and the event time stamp under the activation technologies did not change. The correct time is displayed a few lines above this under 'Trusted Time'. This issue started just after the first of the year and I have been trying to resolve it since then. Some of the updates - important and optional - would install with no issues. A few of the important - including the newly condensed ones that MS is issuing - are failing.

    Hi Neal,
    couple more things to try.

Please run KB971033, this is part of Windows Activation technologies, where the time is incorrect.
    Check BIOS time settings
Reboot x2, rerun Mgadiag, any change??

    Roy,

KB971033 was already installed. I checked the BIOS time and date and it is correct. I rebooted twice afterwards and reran Mgadiag and the trusted time shows the current time and date and the event time stamp still shows the 2096 time stamp. I did a search for 2096 in the registry but after the 80th entry I decided to put that off until later. I tried to do a search for Event but came up empty.

The 2096 timestamp may just come from an earlier Validation attempt.

Open Windows Explorer and go to Access Denied - follow the instructions and then see if the timestamp changes.

I finally got the validation tool to run - outcome saying that my version is genuine. I reran the MGA tool and the date changed to the current date. Tried to reinstall the updates that had failed to install previously and they failed again - both manually and using the Update in the control panel. Looks like I am back to square one again.

    Hi Neal,
    1 step forward,
can you post the Mgadiag, and the last Day(s) entries from the CBS log.

Here are the results you requested.

I was browsing the CBSpersist log from 12/08 when I tried to install the updates and saw this error message:

    2016-12-08 18:10:57, Info CBS Failed to resolve item[0] in Package: Package_100_for_KB3197869~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.5, Update: 3197869-199_neutral_LDR [HRESULT = 0x80073712 - ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT]

I saw several other error messages pertaining to the other update packages that failed to install.

Attached is the results log from the SFX tool. The command window where the progress was shown had something about one file(s) could not be fixed automatically. Also when I went to turn on system restore, the bar was not greyed out. I tried to select restore settings and files initially but got a syntax error message. Upon closing the advanced settings windows and reopening it, that restore setting was selected instead of turn off system protection. I am wondering if some of this stems from the Windows 10 files that were installed in the background even though I had specifically kept unchecking the updates that installed the Windows 10 files.
