    Update fail - error 80073701

The recent KB4054518 update has failed repeatedly on my machine with error 80073701. I searched, and tried the various incantations suggested, but no joy. I really don't know what to try next - any suggestions?

(Windows 7 SP1 Home Premium, updated through November.)

    TIA...

Just a bit of followup, in case this is a clue:

When I boot to Windows, a command line window is open on the desktop, running a program called C:\Windows\system32\CompatTelRunner.exe

I stays there for several minutes, with no indication of anything going on, then disappears. How weird.

    Hi Redoak,

Please run the SURT update KB947821, post the log
    c >> windows >> logs >> cbs ... SURT

The compatelrunner command line tells me its searching for drivers.

Thanks for your reply. I ran the update, but there was no log named SURT. I have attached CheckSUR.log - hope that is what you need...

Thanks for your guidance! How do you suppose the files went missing? This is an installation of Win7 that's been going without a hiccup for over 4 years.

I will check out the Sysnative forum...

    Thanks again for you help!

    Hi Redoak,

I've been on an endeavor to collect a substantial repository of files for replacement purposes. 180,000+ and growing. I can check to see what I have and obtain the rest if you wish. Let me know.

I downloaded your CheckSUR log & I have all your missing files!

Hey thanks Snick! I think that's a really worthwhile project, and will keep it in mind for future reference. In the meantime, I went to Sysnative, and just a while ago got everything sorted out.

Just a brief testimonial - Sysnative was very good to work with. You sort of get a case worker. You get clear instructions - try this, post the results, try this... Rapid turnaround. And results. I can recommend their service wholeheartedly. I was even moved to send a donation.

So I will mark this thread 'solved'. But I will keep your collection of files in mind, Snick!
