Win 7 professional error 80070057 and 80080005 stops win from updating
Hello!
I am new in Win 7 Forum, and I am convinced that you guys can give me the heads up on my problem.
My problem is Win did update great just after I did a clean install on my new HDD however, I have the impression that creating another partition upset the system because some time later the WU program got stuck. So, I have tried out of some advice given in this Forum to make the things going back where should be excepting deleting the new partition, and so far I still have no joy.
This is the history of my attempt to fix the problem.
In Services as Admin I checked if Background Intelligent Transfer service was started and what mode.-OK
Checked Cryptographic Services - OK
Checked Win Modules Installer - OK
Checked Win Update - OK
Ran SFC /Scannow - OK
Ran Checkdisk -OK
Ran Disk Cleanup = Cleaned everything but for Windows Error Reporting Files
Ran once again WU and somehow it did for a short while but came up with error 80080005
Ran WU troubleshooter and it fixed the Service Registration that was corrupt or missing, and twice fixed problems from installing recent updates but there was a WU error 0x80070057 that could not be fixed.
Checked updates installed and have Win SP 1 Visual c++ twice, as well as some other updates installed successfully but also there are many more optional updates that failed to install.
I reverted to a previous restore point and it worked OK before I went back to re-install updates.
Googled error 80070057 and there was this advice in Social Technet web site:
Navigate to HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
Delete all values with this 0x80070057. Then run the the following fix it tool.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us.
I do not like to mess around with the registry though this advice might be sound, but I prefer to explore any other avenue that any savy technician in this Forum might give.
Thanking you in advance
