Which rollup update to download???

MS is really beginning to upset me. I have to go to the update catalog because both of my desktops & my laptop will no longer find updates - they just set forever, searching for updates. All three of these computers had found, downloaded & installed updates(important ones only) up until recently. When I get to the update catalog, I am now presented with "security monthly quality rollup for windows embedded standard 7 for x64-based systems" or "security monthly quality rollup for windows 7 for x64-based systems".

Can someone enlighten me on what is the difference? Thanks

Hi,
This is the security only update rollup
KB3207752 and KB3205394 Update for Windows 7 SP1
Quote:
December 13, 2016—KB3205394 (Security-only update)

This update includes only security fixes. No new operating system features are being introduced in this update. Key changes include:
  • Security updates to the common log file system driver, Windows OS, kernel-mode drivers, Microsoft Graphics Component, Microsoft Uniscribe, and Internet Explorer.
For a complete list of affected files, see KB3205394.

Thanks, but my question is what is the difference between "security monthly quality rollup for windows embedded standard 7 for x64-based systems" or "security monthly quality rollup for windows 7 for x64-based systems"? Both of these are presented on the Windows Update Catalog.

Hi,
You'd have to ask Microsoft
Or dive in through the rabbit hole of links for each KB
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3205394
These are the only 2 that usually matter x64 for 64 bit and x86 for 32 bit

You don`t need embedded.

Do reply #2 from this thread, follow Mike`s instructions, it will fix your update issue.

Windows Update will not update and I've tried multiple fixes

You should not be installing what MS calls important updates until you read its description to see if you want/need it.

And set Windows Update like this.

I just saw this after checking for updates. Looks like one of them is to address the long scan time for updates on "some" computers.
