Windows 7: Cannot Attach file

19 Jan 2017   #11

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit

I've given up. After not hearing anything from this forum for a day I decided to try the Repair Install you mentioned in post#4. The results were posted as a reply to that tutorial.

One of the problems I've had throughout this ordeal is understanding what you want. In post#5 of the previous thread 80071A91 - Update Error, you tell me the following

Please run the commands in safe mode with command prompt.

SURT link

I think that any reasonable man would think that you wanted me to run the SURT command in sm w/ cp. But apparently not, since in this thread (post#9), you tell me (after I post my SURT results)
SURT will not run in Safe mode

And what a pain in the rear to even attempt to run that in safe mode with command prompt. I had to use taskmgr, open a new task and browse to the download area where I stored the SURT download (the one provided by HAVOC, since the link you provided was bogus).

The tower is going back to my wife's office. In those 2 hours I spent with Dell the technician came up completely empty on any kind of fix. He took over the running of the computer and tried a lot of things, but we hung up with him scratching his head in bewilderment. Dell said they would try to talk to Microsoft about the Updates / IE11 issues, but I'm not holding my breath. My wife still has another couple of months left on the extended service plan she took out with Dell, so I guess I'll have to leave it in their court since we've really accomplished nothing tangible here.
