doing a reinstall, which updates to do first?

I'll be installing a M.2 drive soon and doing a clean install of Windows 7.

What do I need to do in order to avoid the "checking for updates" issue?
I've read in other posts that you need to install 2 updates before anything else. Is this correct? I found 4 updates while reading the other post and the names are similar. Below is a snip of my downloads folder.

    Hi,
You could just do these 2 KB3020369 & KB3172605 and cull through the 300 + updates and install just the Important updates to install.
There is a lot of bugs/ known issues with KB3125574

What about resetting Windows updates when I'm done? Which step should I follow?

    Hi,
You shouldn't have to reset on a clean install.

Recently re-installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 with no problems installing drivers first then just whizzing through the updates. Could well have been luck though.

    Hi,
I haven't clean installed since my asus build so :/
But I would at the least install the 2 updates I posted just for good measure :)

I would normally just exclude all of the recommended updates from being mixed in with the important updates and just install all of the important updates.

Cull through the rest recommended and optional ones for known trouble makers :)

I'll hopefully be buying the M.2 drive this weekend and installing my other HDD's for more storage, backups and RAID. I'm getting a new case also. While I'm there I might buy a copy of Windows 7 Pro (just to have).

I'll install the new updates and then all the important ones and some of the optional ones. No optional ones related to hardware will get installed.

Just got back from Microcenter. Bought a Corsair 750D "airflow edition" and a 512GB Samsung 850 Pro M.2 SSD. Didn't get Windows 7, maybe next time.

I need to order connectors and wire so I can power up my 5 HDD's for RAID (I'm making custom length cables). At least I have the M.2 SSD so I can do the install. I can use my current cables to power up my "games", "VM"s" and "backup" drives.

I'll be gone for a little while I transfer my hardware to the new case.
