    Thanks for the reply. Worth a try for me as well. I replaced the power chord and used another socket now. Let's see what happens.

    and....the power-offs have returned :-(
    one each time tonight and yester, nothing in the event logs. machine had only been up maybe 10, 20 minutes at most, just internetting, nothing strenuous, as per last time. any thoughts, advice?
