Windows 7 ultimate will not download updates , but updates are there?

Strange on this , The update file says no update done , but I have done them manually and can see them . Also when I do a normal search it just searches for ages ,but finds nothing ... I have downloaded the fixit tool and various other solutions , but no luck to date ... when I look at properties on the hard drive it shows service pack one ? This is an Acer Extensa 5250 that at some stage been upgraded to windows 7 ultimate from Vista ... I do have internet, so no issues here .. also I have stoped services deleted various files as suggested on line and the restarted for the file to re-install and populate ... but still no go ... any ideas anyone ? if you have a flow chart I can follow so I can fix it , it would be appreciated ... kind regards

    Hi QuovadisUK,
run these tools please, copy/paste the output.

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012
    and
    KB947821

the log for the KB will appear as SURT here, at the bottom
    C >> Windows >> logs >> CBS.> cbs/surt

and 1 days worth of the CBS log, top one

    Hi Quo,
that tells me SURT would not have found any corrupt files

So were back to what you stopped and removed!

please run the tool i mentioned earlier

This laptop was used as a training laptop at work , and was found in the training cupboard in a box , I have booted it up and found a lot of the files associated go back to the period stated . There was some old training notes on it ( which are now outdated ) so these were removed to the bin ... It seems to work OK , but it didnt update .... I looked at the updates and when I look at properties it shows windows 7 ultimate service pack 1 ,

When I look at the update files it shows a mixture of updates inc the old vista files .. ( this was originally a vista machine as it still has the label on it ) , so it would appear it was upgraded at some point by a retail copy of windows 7 ultimate . I can also see the ".old" copy of the windows file .

Since looking at this laptop , I have managed to download manually some updates , hopping this would resolve the issues , but no go .

I will try and get the reports you ask shortly
