    Update error code 8024402C

I have received the windows update error code 8024402C for the past two weeks.

Have tried turning off the AVG antivirus but without success.

Have downloaded and installed the SURT as per instructions

The CBS zip file is attached.

    Some help would be appreciated.

    Hi Goldy,

looks like AVG's caused most of the problems.
(rumour has it that its last update caused a lot of people to have the same issues, check thier forum)
    for the moment
Can you uninstall it using thier removal tool
    IN SAFE MODE

there is another error a missing manifest, i'll try to find it

    Hi Goldy,

plaese create a folder with this description

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\WinSXS\Manifests

Download the attached Zip and save it
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
copy the contents into the newly created file above

    Rerun SURT
    (KB947821)

    post the new SURT.

Thanks for the responses. A couple of silly questions if I may.

Do you want me to download the zip and do a new SURT before or after I've disabled AVG?
    and:
What is protecting my computer if AVG is disabled - you don't mention a re-install?

    Hi Goldy,
Defender will kick in when you remove AVG, once we've sorted the problems you can re-install it.

Run the fix after you have removed AVG.

It taken many hours but here is what I've done:

Downloaded AVG remover file; ran it several times in safe mode with a restart to safe mode after every run.
(N.B. AVG specifically advises that the remover should NOT be run in safe mode due to possible incompatibilities)

restart to normal mode; manually deleted AVG remover folder from C:/programs/AVG

manifest folder already existed with four entries from 2015; deleted folder; added new manifest folder
downloaded zip and extracted to folder.

ran SURT; got error message ox80240009

restart computer; ran SURT; here is the new CBS file

Still getting the error code 8024402C

Can someone take a look at the CBS that I posted a week ago and advise on the next steps.
