March, 2017 Preview of Monthy Quality Rollup...(KB4012218) - Optional?

Why is the KB4012218 considered optional? Is it because I already have the same individual updates installed or is it because they don't apply to my system? And why do they use the word Preview? Is it optional because it's not officially released yet? Like Beta software?

All comments that provide any additional insight on my question are highly appreciated.

    Thanks for reading!

Thanks for your response. However, the post makes no mention of what the word "Preview" means or what a "Monthly Rollup" actually is or means.

    So, Im still confused.

The roll up method of updates is where, rather than a set of separate updates, one each month, each monthly update is added to the previous updates so if you did a new install then installing the latest roll-up will bring you fully up to date. If you are up to date and a new roll-up is issued only the new updates will be downloaded and installed

The preview is as I understand it a list of the New updates in the next roll-up of updates, If you do not download and install them they will be automatically sent to your system via Windows update based on location

    Hi,
Yes preview is beta although all updates are beta in a way but preview is untested but will be released next month if no issues are reported by whomever is crazy enough to install Optional updates :)
Most of use are going security only and manually installing them After making system images so we can Undo the updates if we have issues with them.

Yes that is what really xxxx's me off that the April Important updates were installed without my permission! I had made a system image after install but was about to do one after re-installing all my programs and files BEFORE doing the April updates!!!!! Bah.

It does seem a bit of an issue. If people with 6th generation processors onwards stop doing Windows updates to avoid this update, then they get no further updates. If they install it they get no further updates. Not a good scenario.
