Haven't updated in years (because shady Win10 stuff). Where to begin?
I turned off Windows Updates years ago on account of the many insidious updates intended tohelptrick users intoupgradingswitching to Windows 10. Call me foolish for exposing my system if you want, but it is what it is. So, now that the dust has settled I'd like to get the true updates that fix bugs and security vulnerabilities that I've been missing out on for years.
However, I feel like my Windows Updates was a rabid animal that I frantically threw into a cage years ago when it bit me without provocation (i.e. wanted to trick me into Windows 10 and install new telemetry crap), and now I'm too afraid to open up this locked cage again for fear of what grotesque monstrosity has been brewing in there all this time, and what horrors I might inadvertently let loose.
Where do I get started? With Microsoft's reputation and disregard for my wish to remain on Windows 7 and not be subjected to any of their nonsense, I feel like I can't even make the first step of clicking "Check for updates", let alone wade through the muck trying to harvest the ripe true fixes/updates while avoiding the rotten Windows 10 and telemetry garbage that is intentionally obfuscated with ambiguous/misleading language.
I just don't know what to do. Halp?
