Copy of windows 7 not genuine

Problem is, it's been genuine for the past 4 years. When I try to re enter the code, I receive the same answer. I tried to activate on-line and it states that it is not a valid code. I bought the software from a major company and has worked since. Updated from Win XP. At wits end.

Welcome to our forum jpwd4262.

I see a problem. From your log.

Quote:
C:\Windows\system32\slmgr.vbs(1333, 5) (null): The data is invalid.
I don't know how to fix the problem but I did find something from Noel you should read.
If it was my computer I would try Noel's fix. It may or may not fix your computer, so do so at your own risk.

First make sure you have a readable copy of your COA key on the Microsoft sticker.

It looks something like this.

Here is the needed information from Noel. Post #2

Windows 7 is not Genuine Build 7601 Solved - Windows 7 Help Forums

Quote:
Recreate the Licensing Store
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt
Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

net stop sppsvc
(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
REN tokens.dat tokens.bar
net start sppsvc
slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.
You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.
If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Unfortunately, that didn't work. It came up with the same error. This pc was updated from XP to 7 Pro about 4 years ago. I have tried the old XP COA and the "newer" 7 Pro with similar results. I still don't understand why after all these years the error would come up.

To go from 'XP' to Windows 7 you will have to do a Clean Install of Windows 7. Which means you will have to buy Windows 7. If this has already been done the 'XP' COA will not work.
When you bought Windows 7 it should of came with a matching COA key that will work.
Do you or do you not have a Microsoft COA sticker?

Post a new log and lets see if anything changed.

I have both COA Stickers. I tried the Win 7 COA 1st following the instructions by Noel. That didn't work. Then I tried the WIN XP COA. That didn't work either. I didn't do the upgrade so I am unsure if it was a clean install. I do have the CD that came with the COA for Win 7. Worse case scenario, I can do a clean install.

Wait a little longer and see if any other member has some ideas.

In the mean time make a backup of all the data you want to save, so if you do a Clean Install your backup will be fresh.

I have helped a number of people I know with both similar and the exact same problem that OP has. The simplest way to fix this issue and stop it from happening again in the future is to phone Microsoft and talk with their agent to either get your COA stickers to work or to get new information from the agent to write down and keep for later and use instead of your COA stickers.

The agent will need you to give them parts of or the entire COA sticker infromation for this. It could mean writing the information out to read it easier (or take a picture of it with a phone to read from the phone), as they are often on the underside of notebooks. Giving the agent that info while using the machine can be problematic in that situation.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/

Is now the way to contact Microsoft and eventually talk to a real person to sort the problem out if the OS does not give you a phone number in the screen where you enter the product key from the OCA sticker.
