Best practice for reinstalling Win 7 SP1 from scratch using rollups?

Hey guys,

I have a home-based business with 9 computers, and from time to time I need to reinstall Windows, but as you know, Windows Update tends to crunch for 12 hours before succeeding ( or failing ).

I was wondering what specific standalone packages I could download to bring a Windows 7 SP1 x64 install to a reasonably current condition ( May 2017? ) Is there a list somewhere?

I understand there is a convenience rollup, but I'm not clear if I need every monthly rollup thereafter of what?

I am not interested in upgrading to Windows 10 at this time. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Good question. I can't believe no one has written an automatic batch file for this. Here's how it might work:

1) Install win7 sp1 on your own
2) click on "allupdater" batch file
3) take wife and kids away for long weekend
4) come back sunday night just in time, as windows is finishing its final reboot after updating everything

WELL I'm not entirely that lazy

I have been using a cumulative roll-up KB3125574 ( 488 mb ), and KB3185278 ( 61 mb ), but I suspect there is a more-current way to get from SP1 to May 2017.

Anything that minimizes my interaction with Windows Update would save a lot of time.

I just did a new install of Win 7 Pro 64. All the updates are in cab files in the Windows/SoftwareDistibution/Download folder, well most are.

Is there anyway to write these to a DVD and save them for next time? It's almost 1.8Gb of files.

I think Our senior member @ThrashZone has a post with instructions on the KB's needed to speed up the WU process for a new install - This post should bring this thread to his attention

Thanks. I'm just now downloading 62 updates for Office after the Office SP2 install. I have the SP2 for Office 2010 and my Win7 install has the SP1 built in.

I could not install all 262 Win7 updates at once. I had to go back and do 20 at a time.

Assume I want to download ALL security patches (NOT full rollups) for Win 7 (32bit or 64bit) NOT through the built in updates service but separately from a web page. Where can I do this? In other words: Which page offer the security patches (beginning with Nov 2016) as independent *.exe...

Updates without rollups
Last month all I got other than a few office updates and a MSE definition update where the rollups. No individual hotfixes. I ignored the rollupssince I am desperately trying to avoid the telemetry updates that M$ has posted but they seem to now only use rollups. Is that correct? Is it now...

Rollups - How many so far?
In February this year I used NTLite to create an integrated W7 install disc. The content consisted of my original W7 SP1 plus around 290 selected Windows updates. It's time I built another, up-to-date installer so I'm trying to get up to speed with what's available in the way of updates. ...
