    Real problem with updates.

Now I have a real problem with my main desktop and Ivy Bridge built five years ago, and up to about a year ago it worked without a hitch then started dropping replies to the forum and eventually ended up dropping emails it whatever it got so bad that I couldn't post in the forum because any replies or indeed any new thread was almost immediately dropped - just vanish.

Now I am up to my 10th Clean install of Home Premium and each time I get to putting on all my programs I use and only the essential updates for downloading updates and IE11 as soon as I try to install anything .NET framework which is needed fro the BSOD tutorial for example the machine crashes, or freezes, or both take your pick I can reset the machine with a restore but it is getting really tedious trying to work out just what the hell is going on and I am out of ideas.

So any help would be really appreciated I know I have the post problem thread going but it is now so long and I have now ended up deciding it is an update issue that is trashing the install each time. am now considering a rebuild is the only answer if only I knew that updates are not going to be a problem with that because I can barely afford to do that right now. Plus I have two OEM keys tied to this board and I could only hope for Microsoft to agree to let me use then keys on a new board if not then there is more expense. I do have ISO's id they will let me use them but I would sooner try to fix this issue before I go down that track.

I would add that I have four other machines all running 7 or 10 that operate with exactly what I have had on the main desktop so why is this happening now?

John, did you look at device manager to see if all drivers are installed (no yellow alerts)?
    Is your disk healthy?
Did you use the SP2 for the updates? MS releases SP2 for Windows 7 - Windows 7 Help Forums

Well the damn thing blue screened twice last night and so I have cloned the drive again after a clean frankly I think the board has had it because it doesn't seem to want to hang onto anything when posting.

Roy I will look at the .NET in CP and Mega yes mate have used even brand new drives 54 in all but same results.

My son has offered me his old AMD build while I am trying to get this rotten thing fixed at least I shall be able to post in 7 as I am on my Sandy Bridge with 10 right now but will try and use Ivy to let you see what I have in the CP re .NET it is there - but any updates and down it goes.

May seem a daft question but do you have to go up through >\.NET versions before loading version 4 point whatever??

Ok back on the drive that works after a fashion but as soon as I install the USB drivers the system goes down cannot be even restored and it is dropping these replies.

Despite the OS working fine in safe mode I think that despite the software being questioned I think the board has had it.

    Hi John,
here's my P/F, slightly different to yours.
I do have client and extended but are within C >> Windows >> progfilesx86 >> MSNet >> Redistlist

As for getting to NF4, and its pre-requisites not sure, but that log i asked for references them.

    Back to your board
If it crash's on usb installs GUESS here, hardware conflicts
    If i was troubleshooting
Id CLEAN install (not clone, problems would roll across)
    NON EUFI install as well

Plus I have two OEM keys tied to this board ????
1st obviously from install, (OEM or COA), whats the 2nd Retail/System builder??

Well Roy I ma up to 10 clean installs and heaven knows how many clones because even clean installs are not always much chop. I do the clones that the clean install seems pretty good on only because if I crash the clean install I have to start from scratch.

Now I have other threads dealing with this problem from different aspects but the bottom line is that the machine is like a a car with a perfectly good engine and rear drive but an almost seized up gearbox the key stroke once I start adding stuff to the install like an AV for example can take up to a minute to take effect and as time goes on sometimes not at all. I think the BIOS chip or board quite frankly has eaten the biscuit and might come to a rebuild I think.

A shame really because I appreciate that so many have tried to help out with this issue but nothing seems to work.

The BIOS mate is what is in the pic it looks to me like an either or EUFI / Legacy and the drive ends up a basic drive not MBR or anything really and truly I have had enough now. I shall flash the BIOS tomorrow in case it needs waking up or something and I have nothing to lose from a machine that is virtually unusable as is. It's only way of running stable is in safe mode
