    Windows Update will not open.

I can't seem to find anyone else that has my particular issue after nearly an hour of Googling...

I am the night shift IT tech at my place of employment and have been assigned the seemingly easy task of running Windows updates on several of the network video recorders (NVR) at branch locations. They are all running Windows Embedded Standard 7, 64bit, SP1. I have come across multiple systems that apparently don't have Windows Update. I normally start Windows Update in the Run box by typing "control update". Doing this on the affected systems yields a big fat nothing. No errors or anything. I checked in control panel and there is no entry for Windows Updates at all. I have compared with the systems that are able to open Windows Update and there is an entry in the control panel for such. I have tried running various Microsoft Fix It tools for WU as suggested on other threads for other WU related issues, all of them are unable to run and give an error. I have checked services.msc and there is a service for Windows Update and it is running. Not sure what else to try at this point and further Googling has proved to be fruitless.

The sysadmin is currently unavailable to assist. Any ideas?

I just filled that form with what my personal OS is. These NVRs are using Embedded. Sorry for the confusion.

    hi Colby,

Embedded set-up is done slightly differently from a standard Install..

Its has an options set-up facility, sysprep.
sounds to me like whoever set it up those left them out
All deployed images, ie a sysprep install, are custom so i have no idea what was/was not included in it

Changes for your type of install are handled via DISM.

Enable or Disable Windows Features Online

Should point you in the right direction

easiest way to solve the problem,
get an image of a unaffected, ie with update option, NVR system and deploy that.

The resulting output shows the same thing that the Windows Features settings shows, and that is only Internet Explorer 11. Is there a way to use DISM to get new features? I've tried Googling for an answer to this but it doesn't seem like it is possible. Thank you for your reply

Edit to add: I believe that the OSes are setup by Geovision so I might have to take this up with them, as inconvenient as that is.
