    Error 80073712

I haven't been able to get updates since June 2017. I get error 80073712. I've run sfc, it was unable to repair errors, chkdsk found no errors, no malware, installed SURT, was unable to install standalone updates, ran Windows Update Troubleshooter. My zipped CBS log is 45 MB's which is too large to upload, isn't it?

    Hi VitaminC,

    couple of problems there,
for starters please Uninstall Avast in SAFE MODE, MSE will kick in.
you can re-install it after we sort your problem out

Avast Uninstall Utility | Download aswClear for Avast Removal

Are you using another browser apart from IE11.
If not please download and install one.
    Once you have an alternative
    Uninstall IE11, control panel >> programs&features >> Features(top left)
a smaller window will open UNCHECK IE11.
(the missing package refers to IE, do you have any language packs installed??)

    REBOOT

    RERUN SURT, post the results.

I don't have any language packs showing in Optional Updates, but many special characters don't appear. I followed advice from YouTube videos and deleted contents of the Software Distribution folder, then someone on another forum advised me to run a utility which unbeknownst to me emptied the Recycle bin so my Windows Update history only goes back to June 2017.

    Well it certainly wasnt Sysnative.:)

No worries, just post the results of SURT as requested after removing Avast/IE11.

The "Turn Windows features on or off" dialogue box is blank.

I did some research on the logs and found that many are having issues with Avast and Windows Update. I ran the Avast Repair Tool then ran SURT and saw a few things were fixed but i still can't install updates. I'm going to try a clean boot and if that doesn't work I'll uninstall Avast. I'm a little timid about uninstalling IE in case the corrupted files don't let me reinstall it.
