    Solving SP1 problems

I have spent far too much time and energy and frustration on SP1. I have tried everything that I can read on the subject without success. It downloads and takes a long time to install, then begins shutting down. So far so good, then at 11% configuring it shuts down, reboots tries to configure but at 11% stops and reverses the installation.

I am frustrated and want to try something else. I can reload Win 7 reinstall them all again, but SP1 still may not configure. I borrowed a friends newer Win7 ultimate installation DVD with SP1 on it and am wondering if I reinstall using that DVD and use my product key, will it activate OK or is my key only good for the DVD without the SP1.

    Hi W6k,

Your product key will only be valid for the version it was issued for.
You would be better off using a edition specific version that YOU can keep.

Run this tool copy/paste the output, if it comes back OK i will provide a link for you
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

    note
system specs are showing 32bit, the licence will also be valid for 64bit install

    which do you want??

I checked my updates and did not find 971033 installed and I checked hidden and there were none. The only update I show as not installed is SP1. Why hasn't 971033 appeared in my updates since it seems that registration is very important and you say is the key to my getting SP1. Where has Microsoft been?. I didn't count all the updates I have done, but closer to 150 at least. How do I find 971033 to patch?

    Link in other post.

Required as you appear to have re-installed, June this year.
    Extended PID: 00426-00172-070-076960-00-1033-7600.0000-1852017

Once SP1 is installed your updates will total 300+

I managed to get KB971033 installed and rebooted. Computer went to safe mode so I uninstalled it and rebooted but again it went to safe mode. I did a restore back to 8/1 successfully but it still comes up in safe mode. I'm on my cell phone. I read that KB 971033 was evil and I see why. It been removed but that didn't help. Any ideas?

    Hi W6K,

KB971033 is described by some as evil, because it finds counterfiet installs.
Your MGADiag is showing as genuine..

    follow this tutorial.

I used my repair disk without success. Repair says it can't fix the problem and to uninstall or remove the thing that triggered the problem. 971033 is removed and that triggered the problem. i checked the logs and found it loaded with WAT 1033 references and saying something is corrupted. Perhaps 1033 did not install properly or was corrupted on the download and i should reinstall it but-- no Internet in safe mode. Ill check your link and hope it can be fixed. I am on my other computer now. It doesn't have SP1 either
