    Supposedly SP1 is a compilation of security updates that have already been provided and a few PC "extras" but mostly it's updates for Windows Server. If you've kept up with all your previous security updates then you already have all the updates that are contained in SP1 making it superfluous.

    If you must have SP1 then try this;

    Follow these steps and check if they help.

    Step 1: Run the system file checker tool.
    Check the article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 “How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7”

    Step 2: Run the System Update Readiness Tool again. If the errors have been cleared, try installing Service Pack 1 again.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
    If not, move to step 3.

    Step 3: Perform a Startup Repair, upon startup, try installing the Service Pack.

    Sorry, I missed that however like I said in my first response, if you did all the security updates prior to trying to install SP1 then you already have all the updates you need (for a PC) and do not need SP1. I'd simply hide the update and not worry about it any longer.

    Again, in my OP i mentioned i need to install Python 3.6.2
    This requires a SP1
    If you know a method to install Python 3.6.2 without SP1 feel free to share.
    Thnx !

    Since I don't use Python I didn't know what it was, sorry not a lot of sleep last night so obviously the brain is not functioning up to snuff......... Looks like I have to be more careful with reading today. Hopefully someone else knows, looks like all the fixes I know about you've already tried unless you haven't tried "net stop wuauserv" (command promp), run the update fixit tool, reinstalled the latest version of update agent then rebooted and rerun updates.

    Well then the only other thing I can think of is back up all your files, do a clean Win 7 install and try again but you might have already done that, dunno.

    Nope, havent done that yet. As it is just for Python to install i rather wait a bit longer for a solution then reinstall W7 again....
