Did anyone solve activation issues on legal Windows 7?

    Hello and Hi,

I am just passing by due to Windows 7 Professional (64 Bit) going all borked yet again.

Essentially, bought a custom built desktop computer from an UK company (Overclockers) with Windows 7 Professional installed and it has been insisting it is illegal since ... always. Have tried formatting drives, reinstalling and just about every thing under the sun but it seems to somehow be connected to either mainboard (Asus All Series and yes, possibly my fault as it does not give me specific model, ever), internal drive (Barracuda 1 TB SATA 3 from 2013ish) or the key itself.

So. Would have written it down as my stupidity but up until February 2017, I have worked in a company with plenty individual computers of various types - usually Dell, Samsung and Acer pre-made laptops which have came without a system. My boss bought separate digital editions of various Windows 7's (the one I worked on was 64-Bit Professional same as desktop but used others as well and we had one Home Edition 32-Bit and two Ultimate 64-Bit) whilst mine came with physical DVD and key glued onto desktop. All suffered from same error proclaiming our systems illegal from the start.

Essentially, am curious as to solutions as for a moment rearm cmd command worked for me (on my desktop, didn't check on work ones) but it stopped recently (even with registry changes on max uses of it; have not tried a fresh install then as said computer is backup machine now). I am working on a different station nowadays thus not really needing tips but kind of want to know what on Earth caused it (nope, all computers did not install some wonky updates and had fresh reinstalls thus I suspect it is some key blacklist or part related).

To add even a more curious thing - till 2008, all computers bought in my area came with illegal Windows - got first legal one few years after moving to UK (2012) and it's been the first one I had an activation issue with (desktop was bought with fresh Windows so have not fiddled with it until reinstall due to activation issues - did not help).

    Hi sigxvicious,

not surprised MS deemed it non-genuine

OK so whats giving it away

Product ID type 2 means factory installed (1)
product key and Id Are for an Asus (1)
No slic table Allways present on an OEM product (2)

Your comp has a Retail Intel Z97 motherboard with AMI Bios, and you stated its custom built which means (1) cannot be genuine, further backed up by (2)

When you were supplied with this comp Overclockers should have provided you with a System Builder licence and the discs, -- the COA sticker with genuine product key must be attached to the packaging for the discs
(not the first time i've heard about this from them)

As for the bulk purchase of licences by your Boss, they needed to be either
    System Builder or Retail.
note MS sold another type directly to business's - Volume (VLK/MAK), yours would have been MAK

    Slmgr/rearm
Only gives you 3 chances to "extend" the genuine life of the OS.

MS does operate a system whereby if you provide them with details of suspected pirated versions of thier products they will try and stop it.
    How to Tell - Home
SOMETIMES not allways they might supply you with a complimentary key

As for your activation problem, but not the others i suspect an exploit was used on those machines.

I have found the original purchase receipt and that is the motherboard. As for further details - unfortunately it would have been easy if it had been an exploit by shop and indeed did not have any additional papers or keys supplied by them - just Windows disc and the codes on computer sticker (I do not think DVD package had any on it as I remember looking for keys).

My boss did not buy licenses for computer in bulk plus they were stand alone machines and each had their own system with separate license. Mentioned it as he never solved it either but left this job hence cannot check.

Alas, it had been first time in my life I had a legal system or half legal as it seems thus had no knowledge bar needing an activation key (and yes, used the one from case tower sticker to do it online immediately - it told me key is wrong). Have bought current system for another machine on my own and this time it is fine. Thank you for reply!

The activation process was obviously tampered by the previous owner.

SLIC Table should always be present on OEM Computers, the log shows it didn't.

There should be a label on the PCB of the motherboard about it's model. ASUS always have it except on their gaming motherboards.
