edit: I did not install KB971033, will do so and complete above instructions.

Ok, I finally have the BIOS updated to 1.50. I ran the MGADiag tool and here is the result. I also tried to activate it after running the tool as well, no joy. I can attempt to activate by phone with a level 2 tech if necessary.

Ron, thank you for your help (and your patience!).

Hi Dealerman,

No change in the report.

Ok, the time was not correct in the BIOS, but I know I checked it yesterday before shutting it down. The CMOS battery is also new, so I'm at a loss as to why it wouldn't keep the time. There is no COA, so that won't help us. Shall I recreate the licensing store and try again?

Hi Dealerman,

please try the fix. MAKE SURE the Bios date is correct first

BIG NOTE

if the Bios time is wrong IT will cause this and other problems.
As its a new battery, assuming it OK, then its pointing more to a Hardware problem.
Nothing we do will be able to fix it.

No luck. Correct date & time in the BIOS. It came very close though, as it was right there at the end of verification before failing. It has to be hardware problem, as it never wanted to keep the correct time since I took possession of it last year (I was hoping the BIOS update would cure that nonsense). As for a hardware problem, is it worth pursuing? The laptop was given to me, so I'll go with your recommendation.

Roy, many thanks for your help! I've added to my knowledge from your expertise, hopefully others will benefit from this as well.

Hi Dealerman,

just had a quick look at a vid for that comp, you could have a quick look at the accessable connections, clean them off, cant see the rear bits tho.

As you got it for free id just get a new one.
