...the system window shows "Windows is activated". I called Microsoft and the rep I talked to was no help and tried to pass off the problem to Lenovo. After that call I started thinking about the problem again and did more digging.

I read about issues with KB3004394 and KB3022345 (both are installed on my system). KB3022345 causes an issue with 'sfc' and can be fixed by simply uninstalling it. KB3004394 can be fixed with KB3024777 (which I downloaded from MS manually). Do I install KB302477 as is, or do I uninstall KB3004394 first?

Also I keep finding a driver issue (Intel Rapid Storage Drivers). 'iaStor.sys' on my system is version 8.9.2.1002 and the latest/last one for 'Intel(R) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller' is 11.7.0.1013 . Now the Readme.txt says:

5. The 'Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility'
must be installed prior to installing
Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology.

...is this something I have to install first, or it it part of the driver installation package? I've got a deep gut feeling that this is at least part of the issue my system is having. Any further input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Very Truly Yours,
Chris

2 things in that report

The copy of Office IS NON-GENUINE, its going to a server blocked by MS
Please remove it.

your comments about IRST is also correct they are corrupt, a lot of the errors are created by it.
However there are more that in not sure of
Install the Iata.enu set, at the bottom, from this link
Download IntelĀ® Rapid Storage Technology (IntelĀ® RST)

REBOOT

Thanks Roy,

Drat on the MS Office issue. Now I have to find a replacement for it, and a way to read/convert all the files I made with it. I used it because it came with the system. Hopefully I can find a freeware/open source/otherware/etc replacement... topic for another thread.

Your IRST link pointed to the same Intel page I referenced. If you go to that page and click on the "Readme.txt" link on the page which is for all the packages including the "iata_enu.exe" package, it says under "System Requirements":

5. The 'Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility'
must be installed prior to installing
Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology.

...is the "Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility" something I have to install first, or is it part of the "iata_enu.exe" package?

Also any advice on the faulty Windows Updates? Should I remove KB3022345 (SFC issue) right away? Also KB3004394 has been know to cause "0x8004fe21" as well and can be fixed with KB3024777 (a.k.a.: The "Silver Bullet" update). Do I install KB302477 as is, or do I uninstall KB3004394 first? Thanks.

Very Truly Yours,
Chris

Hello Roy,

First I logged into the main admin account. Then uninstalled and 'ripped out by the roots' everything MS Office I could find. Lastly I installed the IRST drivers... restarted twice... then over the next hour and a half Windows went through a series of downloads, updates, and restarts. After the last one I re-ran the MGADiag.exe:

...it looks like the system is starting to stabilize. Do you see anything amiss? To replace MS Office I'm going to go with LibreOffice... it looks like a great alternative... any advice? So the last question is what to do about the faulty Windows updates I listed. Do I have to worry about them causing issues in the future? Thanks.

Hi Chris,

That report looks fine, NOTHING else showing.
As i said just a bad set of Intel drivers.

It'll take a day or so for the updates to complete.
No you dont have to worry about the "faulty updates" they issued patches to correct them,
your comp will have corrected them in one of two ways
Installed the hotfix
or by installing the latest cumulative update.

As for Libre, dont use any type of "office" software, so cant help you there
