    Windows Update Changed Colors

Yesterday's Windows 7 monthly update changed the colors, for example, Active Title Bar, in Windows Classic theme. I can't get them back.

After I saw that everything was blue, I went into Personalize -> Window Colors and changed the Active and Inactive title bar colors from blue to gray. This didn't look right, so I tried to find a blue for the secondary color. None of the standard colors look right.

Part of the problem is that I don't really remember exactly what it used to look like. All I know is, the way it's looked for the last 13 years or whatever is different from how it looks now. And I find it jarring every time I use a program, like IE 11.

Uninstalling the 3 updates (.net, monthly rollup, malicious software removal tool) might restore them, although this seems like a lot of trouble.

It is beyond me why they would bother to change this so late in the lifecycle of a product that is considered so obsolete.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to restore the default Windows Classic colors?

    hi Prignillius,

MS do seem to be changing user settings lately via updates, they even changed my customized icon

Not a lot we can do about it.

you could restore to an earlier date, and only install the security update, there were changes made in the standard update that affected IE, have a read of it.

Other flaky things were happening, so I decided to uninstall the updates. What a disaster!

I have never tried to uninstall an update before. It took a couple of hours, having to do them one by one and restart after each one. I installed 2 updates, but had to uninstall about 20. One of these restarts resorted all my desktop icons into 3 rows on the left-hand side of the screen.

Once I finally got done uninstalling, none of my windows objects colors had been restored. Next, I restored the system from the last boot before I installed the updates. I had to do this in Safe Mode.

Once it got done with that, my colors are still not restored, nor are my icon positions. Grrrr!

What I had to do to get the Windows Classic colors back:
I had to go to my air-gapped XP box, which is also running Classic Style, and write down all the RGB values for each window object. Then I set the same values in Personalize -> Window Colors. A lot of work, but at least things look right again.
