I get "Unsupported Hardware" pop-up with i7-4930k processor?

Hi, I was under the impression that it is common to get the "Unsupported Hardware" pop-up when using one of the newer i7-7xxx processors because Microsoft wants us to switch to Win10. But my processor is at least a few years old. Is it unusual that I'm getting this pop up?

I've searched for the updates that others have said cause the pop-up with newer processors but I don't seem to have those updates. Can this be fixed? Thank you.

IF this message has only just appeared on your system then its likely the latest Cumulative update is responsible.
Uninstall it, see if it dissappears, you may have to go back a few.

MS has said. in April, it will fix this bug, Oh yes he said

Trouble is if they dont fix it then everytime they roll out the next cumulative update the message will re-appear.

I only install the security patches, not the cumulative, as my system goes the other way its older
The downside is that your not updating MS programs bug fix's, Office/Skype/IE etc

Thanks Torchwood and Johnhoh. I am new to Windows 7. What a disappointment to run into things like this when trying to upgrade. Part of the game, I suppose.

Nevertheless, Roy, this appaered after a fresh install and the 35 or so updates that came after. I've seen threads mentioning certain updates to remove and hide and have searched for those in my installed updates but they weren't there.

Johnhoh, I've seen reference to Zeffys fix. The interesting thing about my situation is that I still seem to be able to install updates even though I get this annoying pop up. And my processor is not mentioned in his description. But I suppose many processors are affected? In your experience, do my symptos fall under the category of things fixable by Zeffy? I'd rather not run it if my situation doesn't fit the description.

On the main zeffy page I linked above it references that one of the intel processors affected was released in 9/13. Yours is i5 and that one is i7, but just saying. I am not aware that there is an official list of affected processors.

The reason this problem occurs is that microsoft added a couple lines of code to wuaueng.dll, the Windows Update Automatic Update ENGlish dll file. Within it, it now checks your cpu type when you run windows update and if it does not like what it sees, it branches to the "Unsupported" message that you are getting. What zeffy's program does is simply bypass that message. Since it is downloadable as as msi file, that means that if you do not like it you can just uninstall it the normal way by doing control panel > programs > uninstall.

If the program fails to fix your problem I am sure zeffy will be interested in your situation, and you can open a New Issue to tell him by going to this page:

I realize you are probably not a programmer-geek and may be hesitant to use this program. All I can tell you is that it was designed to get around this annoying message and it seems to work. I am not aware of any other solution. You could always go straight to microsoft as well, since your cpu is not supposed to be getting this message, but MS may not be helpful, not sure. You could also just reach out to zeffy and ask him directly about your situation, but surely he is going to ask you to run his program first. If you are really not wanting to take any chances here at all, it sounds like you could just live with the annoying message since you are able to still use windows update.

Assuming you are running 64-bit windows7, the download and install file is here (the filename that ends in "...x64.msi")

Gotcha, thanks again for answering. You're right about everything, except my CPU is i7. When I get home to my machine next week I'll make a system backup and give it a try. Incidentally, I'm trying Aomei backupper. I tested it once and it worked. I found it very interesting that it makes the backup while still in Windows, and restores outside of Windows! Thanks for your detailed help.
