Win 7 Updates - Security and .NET stuff - some Do and some Don't..

1 - Dell Inspiron Intel i3, Win 7 Pro 64 bit, 8 meg - No updates have been successful since 2017-06

2 - Dell Latitude Intel i3 Win7 Pro 64 bit 8 meg - Eventually updates take, but only after 7 failures I finaly had 2017 Security update successfully install. Ran that one individually, without the .NET update .

    3. - Lenovo 710 Centrino, 4 meg Win 7 Ultimate - Each and every update successful, 1 try only.

Any hints or clues as to why any one machine takes versus rejects?
How 'critical' are these Security updates?
Must they be installed in sequence? ( I'm assuming yes. )

Appreciate any insight, and Thank You.

    Hi Justin,

    easy answers first

All system and security updates are now cumulative.
if august failed but september installed nothing is lost or missing.

    YES security updates are critical.

As for the 3 different computers acting differently.
Its actually quite amazing, certainly no definative rhyme or reason, why some computers update correctly and others dont
They just seem to lose parts of the update or registry keys/components

there are 3 standard repair tools to use
    KB947821
    sfc /scannow
    chkdsk /r

    each produces a log within
C >> Windows >> logs > CBS ....cbs checksur surt.

analysis of these can determine the cause - some are fixed some not.
whats leftover needs to be manually corrected, hence this and other forums ie Sysnative.
Im ignoring the fact that once MS identifies a system as non genuine some updates will not install
