    Not auto updating since Nov?

    Hi,

W7 Pro 32bit SP1 installed, isn't auto updating. When manually run to check for updates get a error that some services not working, reboot.
    Reboot isn't responding either.
    All 3 services are running.
Restored earlier images but the same.
Any help would be appreciated, as always.

    Alex.

This has been a very common problem over the last few days. The remedy that seems to work is as follows:

Turn off Internet Time Synchronisation, then back date the computer to the 3 Dec 2017, then reboot & run Windows Update, it should update to the 3rd. In your case you may need to try an earlier date if the 3rd does't work

Then reboot, reset internet time synch, change computer date to today's date, re run Windows Update & it should check for Updates & came back with Windows is up to date, with the time check also being current.

This method should retain all your Update History as well.

Thanks, appreciate your expert assistance, it worked.
    Did as follows:

    1. Turned off Time Synch, set date to 3rd Dec.

    2. Reboot.

    3. Ran check for updates, it worked and found 38 important ones for W7 and MS Off.

    4. Turned on Time Synch and reset date to present.

    5. Rechecked updates, same, downloaded and installed all in one go. All went smooth.

Why was this necessary, just curious, and if for some reason happens again, do the same?

    Regards!

    Alex.

Alex, you are welcome & thank you. Glad to hear it is now working properly.

The Auto Updating facility is authorised by MS by installing an Authorising cab, which gets accessed every time the computer starts. This AuthCab has an expiry date, which in this case was 3 Dec. Normally the AuthCab gets updated during the usual Windows Update process so it does not reach the expiry date, but in this case, probably due to a failure of MS not keeping abreast of things, it actually expired. So this is not something that is likely or should happen again, well hopefully!!!!!!.

    Bligh.
