Has Windows Update been slow/unreliable for people recently?

I recently did a reinstall of Windows 7 which has KB3177467, KB3172605, KB3125574 integrated among a few other updates. When I try to patch and bring the install up to date, it either takes a long time to search for updates, a long time to download the updates, or fails to download some of the updates.

I last did a format at the beginning of the year and everything went smoothly with the same integrated ISO. Has anyone else had similar issues lately?

Edit: using Resource Manager I see that WU seems to only be using 10KB/s (netsvcs) when nothing else is running. If I run something else I'm able to download at 3.5MB/s in those applications at the same time.

    Hi updatepain,

For a clean install, I integrated the updates KB3020369 (Servicing Stack Update from April 2015), KB3125574, KB3172605 & KB3179573 (in that order) into the install.wim using DISM (along with the Security Only Updates). I then tested it in a VM without any problems.

Although KB3177467 (Servicing Stack Update from September 2016) is a more up to date Servicing Stack Update, the reason not to use it if you are creating a new install.wim file offline is as below.

KB3177467 is flagged for exclusive install (Must be installed exclusively: Yes) and is not compatible if you are going to integrate KB3125574 offline. If you use KB3020369 as the prerequisite to KB3125574 then KB3125574 can be added offline, using DISM or whatever.

Out of interest, what method of integration did you use?

    I hope this helps!

I used NTLite to integrate the updates. I've also noticed that downloading updates from the Microsoft Update Catalog is really slow as well.

I usually download the .msu's and put them in a folder and then direct DISM to that folder to integrate them all. Microsoft Update Catalog can be a bit hit and miss depending when you are trying to download updates!

    I hope this helps!
