    Windows 7 KB4054518 Failed

Getting the Windows Update failed. Has been a nightmare for 3 months now, with restarts taking a good 10 minutes as the system attempts the update, fails, and reverts changes each time

    Error Code 80070005

I have read this is an access denied error, but I don't know how to fix it.

    Hi saturn2187,
    Welcome to SevenForums,
    CMD run as administrator
    copy & paste
    wusa /uninstall /KB:4054518 /quiet /norestart
    wusa /uninstall /KB:4012215 /quiet /norestart
    exit
Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to desktop.
    Run, will take a while.
Please attach the CheckSUR.log to your next post, from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\

    Hi Snick,

Out of curiosity, why did you use the file (KB947821 - Oct 2014 - Size 456.3 MB):
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 (KB947821) [October 2014]

    ...instead of the file (KB947821 - Oct 2014 0 Size 951.9 MB):
System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014]

It appears that the one you posted is for x86 whereas the second of the two above is for x64.
The above are not links to the files BTW but just for clarification as shown in Windows Catalog.

    Thanks in advance.

saturn2187, CheckSUR.log is clean, no errors, if you ran the uninstall I posted, try downloading it from M$ catalog & installing your problem KB again. 2017-12 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4054518)
If you still cannot install it, try safe mode

    @Paul Black
Wanted to get back with you regarding your post. I wasn't concerned with the file differences, size, more recent. I Googled SURT tool x64 and copied the link, as I was only interested in generation of CheckSUR.log.

Thanks for your observance regarding the difference.

Not a problem, I just happened to notice that I remembered it being a lot bigger for the x64 version, that's all.

    Have a great weekend!
