Hi The System Update Readiness Tool has been running for two hours now no sign of stopping. Unlike yesterday it took less than 30 min! Should I have deleted the old temp folder before starting this? (I haven't deleted it) Thanks Ps Would believe it as soon as I post it installs doh! One more do I type this (wusa /uninstall /KB:976932 /quiet /norestart
at > type exit) then press enter and closs cmd box?
Shouldn't have to delete old file in temp surt does that before generating new checksur.log
Yes copy and paste bold text into cmd at >
wusa /uninstall /KB:976932 /quiet /norestart
after it runs you will be at the dos prompt again
>
then either type exit there or click the red x upper right hand corner of cmd window
You can close surt with red x also, if it won't close, right click taskbar, choose start task manager, select surt entry and choose end task
run surt again. Every once in a while surt will hang, why ???
Hi Bit of a disaster here my laptop got switched because the screen goes black after 15 mins so it was assumed it wasn't being used. Got stuck in windows preparing loop I've sorted that with system restore (dated 3 days ago I think). Should I start the whole process again or from 12 & 13 procedures? Sorry about this.
Could be your screen saver initialized and set to none that will give you a black screen. Has happened to me a couple times in the past. Usually moving the mouse, or pressing a key on the keyboard will wake the computer and screen.
Just post #13 if you would please. Make sure you reboot after installing the update, then run surt and post log.

Hi How long does this prrocess last and how do I know it's running? Thanks
Hi Loui,
have you used the MS inbuilt disk cleanup tool since installing SP1 ??
Unfortunately if you have then the uninstall of SP1(kb976932) will fail
Roy
disk cleanup yes I have. Should I type exit in cmd box to stop process?
