Several Processes Running after Patch Updates

It's been almost 3 hours since installation of the monthly patches. The HD light has been on and a check of Task Manager shows MsMpEng, SearchFilterHost, SearchIndexer and SearchProtocolHost are using the CPU to fluctuating degrees. Also, there are mscorswv.exe and mscorswx.exe*32 there, but apparently not using any CPU (see attached screen shot of Task Manager with the files outlined). Are these activities this normal? I'd like to shut down, but I don't like to if something is running. Is it okay to shut down while these are active?

It finally stopped after about 5 hours. This didn't happen last month.
