Copy of Windows not genuine
Have genuine Dell Win 7 for years now. Ran fine until the last few months where several times I've booted and had a black desktop with icons and the old Copy of Windows is not genuine. Each of the past couple of times I did the SLMGR -REARM at a command prompt run as admin. And then it ran fine for a long time in between.
Today it came up with the not genuine window. I hadn't had a Windows update. I ran Malwarebytes and had one pup and got rid of it. I tried the SLMGR deal again and it said you've done it too many times. So I read that you go into regedit/local machine/ and reset the SkipRearm value to 1 to be able to use SLMGR -REARM again. Ran it and it said ok, but after reboot the not genuine once again.
Did a System Restore to a week ago when it was ok and it ran and restored, but then came up with the not genuine once again.
I entered the Product Key off of the comp case into the Computer Change Product Key box. Said no good. So I ran Magical Jelly Bean to get the Product Key. It came up with
Product ID: 00426-OEM-89xxxxx-xxxxx match to CD Key data
CD Key: MHFPT-8C8M2-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx
I entered the CD Key number in Change Product Key but said no good.
I did see that some recommend uninstalling update KB971033. Little leary to do that, but I will if it's a good fix.
Thanks
