    Why can't I re-activate Windows 7?

Hi all. I recently was able to do a repair install of Windows 7 on an old AMD Opteron machine I built about 10 years ago. My issue is this; I am unable to re-activate Windows. I saved my product key to a notepad file, but when I try to use it for activation, I get a message saying to the effect that my product key appears to be a default key and they want me to use a different Key. I s they any way to get around this? I purchased this copy of Windows and downloaded it from Digital River and made a DVD.

    Hi Painterh52,

You could try these to see if the product key is the same product key that you have got => Belarc Advisor or Magic Jelly Bean.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks anyway

Thanks for the response, I do still have Belarc Advisor on the aforementioned machine, however, the product key it shows gets the same response from Microsoft.

    Hi Painter,

got a sneaky feeling you only kept 1 of the 2 keys you need
(check your Belarc report again, do you have an old copy somewhere else? )

Your running Enterprise office which is coming back as >>genuine<< - the key i believe you used
Unfortunately this does NOT cover W7 Pro

The key currently showing is the standard Retail key, hence my above comment

try the following - read the insructions re back-up
    ShowKeyPlus - Windows 10 Forums

    or this
How do I find my product key from windows.old?

    re: 2 keys

It's been so long since the original installation, I don't remember there being 2 keys
