[1] Before I give you the instructions of how to create a bootable USB [it isn't as difficult as it sounds], please download and run the Windows7-USB-DVD-tool. Burn the ISO to a DVD using this => Windows USB/DVD Download Tool.

[2] You could have a dodgy DVD player/burner! Are you sure you finalized the DVD after burning?

Do you know what make and model the DVD drive is. You can Google for the driver and download it onto a USB and install it from there, and then continue with the installation!

Hi rick33,

During installation you should delete all partitions on the (C:) drive leaving you a single un-allocated partition on which you install Win 7 on.

Also, you should remove all other attached drives. What is in the (F:) drive?

What is system (D:). Is that the recovery partition? Was there an option to recover or reset to factory when you booted?

This is why using a bootable USB is sometimes better than using a DVD!

[1] To start with I said the CD/DVD drive, not the HDD!
[2] What is on the Kingston Data Traveller 2.0 USB? [all other drives should be removed during installation]!
[3] Have you got a Drivers CD/DVD that came with the laptop?

System (D:) could be the recovery partiton on (C:)! Please see my previous post.

Hi rick33,

BTW, I had already said to you about booting the DVD and the boot order and getting into it in my Post #108 as below!

yes i started from the DVD

i dont knowingly have any drivers.

disk F is probably the dongle^ for the mouse

there was no option of reset to factory specs. wish there was!

am i going to be inundated for drivers that i do not have?
thanks

Has a Windows 7 update removed good features?
I installed Windows 7 and have been generally impressed and pleased with the changes. I don't know about the technical aspects, so such things as the ability to 'snap' windows into certain sizes and the new task bar previews are the main focus of such positive comments. HOWEVER... Unless I...
