Desktop cannot boot after installation of SP1

Hi,

Need some help from the experts here. I have been searching on google but have not found a solution. Thanks in advance for you advice.

I have an eMachines desktop running Windows 7 Professional that cannot boot from the HD, DVD and USB sticks after installation of SP1. After installation of SP1 I clicked Restart and the machine did the reconfiguration. But while doing the configuration Windows abruptly shut down the machine and the monitor screen was black, and the PC did not reboot.

I powered the machine back on but it would not boot from the HD; there was no sound from the HD. I tried to get into the BIOS and boot menu but the monitor screen was black with no response to key strokes. So the machine cannot boot from the HD, the DVD and the USB stick. The PC fan still turns very strong so the power unit seems good. I tried three different monitors and two keyboards and also took out the CMOS clock battery, but still had the same boot problem.

Machine specs:
eMachines Desktop PC EL1352G-41W
Small form factor
Athlon II X2 220 (2.80 GHz)
2 GB DDR3
500 GB HDD
NVIDIA GeForce 6150
Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit

Hi tk2478,

Welcome to SevenForums!

Have you got another graphics card that you could temporarily try or another HDD that you could use to to see if it boots on the screen?

Thanks for your suggestion. The NVIDIA GeForce 6150 is an integrated graphic card and is part of the motherboard. Unfortunately I do not have another graphic card or HD to try. I disconnected the HD from the motherboard to see if the boot process would try the DVD drive, but it did not. It seems that while Windows was doing the reconfiguration something went wrong and the machine powered itself off. After that all the function keys, F12, F10, F2, F8, DEL, ESC, etc. were disabled and the screen was black with nothing displayed. Once in a while the monitor displayed the message "No Input" when I connected it to the PC. Suggestions on google said to go the monitor prompt and type this type that. But that is not possible when the screen is completely black. Only the PC fan is turning, and other parts (motherboard, keyboard, graphic card, USB port, and/or CPU) seem to be dead. I am wondering if this boot problem has something to do with the Windows patches for Meltdown and Spectre bugs.

Hi tk2478, have you got a VGA Lead that you can plug into the computer and then into your TV?

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't have a VGA lead to connect the PC to a TV. (I haven't used a TV either for eons.) I took the PC to a computer repair store. But the diagnostic fee and possible repair fees are potentially much more than (multiples of) what the PC is worth.
