Windows 7 complication 7601, this copy of Windows is not genuine.

Hello group, today i restarted my hp EliteBook 8470p and i got an error message saying that my copy of windows 7 is fake. It is an old computer belonging to my mother and my brother downloaded windows on it i don't know how but i don't think it is fake, also i have been using it for a few months already and out of the blue i get this message in portuguese "Windows 7 complication 7601, this copy of Windows is not genuine" on the bottom right side of the screen in white while the background is all black.

I have tried some codes (SLMGR -REARM) from youtube using CMD but it does not work for this pc, it says it is not a basic edition of Microsoft Windows. I have no idea what is going on...

Also on one of the error message that displays on startup, it says that "Windows detected an alteration that would result in the limited function of windows..."

Can someone please help? This is urgent i need to get back to work and study.

Welcome to the forum. You say Windows was download were from a genuine site or other have you got a serial number for it?. If it's a pirated copy using a crack it has a limited life before the crack stops working

Click on Start, then Control Panel, then click on System and Security, and finally click on System. Then scroll all the way down to the bottom and you should see a section called Windows activation, which says “Windows is activated” and gives you the Product ID. It also includes the genuine Microsoft software logo.





If you're seeing these notifications, it's likely that your copy of Windows wasn't properly activated. Click the notification and follow the steps to repair Windows or buy a genuine version of Windows if you find out the software is counterfeit.

Until you correct the issue, you'll receive periodic reminders that Windows is not genuine. Your desktop may also turn black to emphasize the messages. You can reset it, but it will return to black every 60 minutes until the issue is resolved.

Windows will always be able to get critical security updates, even if your version isn't genuine. However, other updates and benefits are available exclusively for genuine Windows software.

It says "Status not available" for "Windows Activation", and for product key it also says Product ID: Not available. But i am pretty sure it was there before....

My brother is younger than me and he has graduated from Oxford university, I doubt that he has downloaded a fake copy of windows 7 on this mother's computer, by the way i went to windows update and saw the history of downloads and from 8 of june to today, 22nd June, they are all updates for Microsoft Security Essentials.

I have skimmed through a Thread in this forum from Drainbolt (a user in this forum) and it seems that he had the same issue except it wasn't linked to a fake or pirated OS so there are high chances that I either got a virus or there is something else affecting my pc...

By the way i also just removed 2 severe quarantined threat items from April from Microsoft Security Essentials antivirus, and have only done a quick scan a few hours ago and nothing malicious was found on this pc....

Inside the battery it says Windows 7 Pro OA MEA and there is also a Product Key.

use that product key, its likely as you used non HP install media the automatic self activation failed.

then rerun the Mgadiag tool.


Thats a great little lappy using it to post this, upgraded RAM to 16gb and slammed an SSD in it

as the mgdiag and the error report are in Portuguese, he may have added a language pack.
IF the system was EN-UK and portuguese was added it could not have been done legitamately, not allowed on Pro versions of W7
